The Helena May

The Helena May was established in 1916 by Lady May, wife of the then governor of Hong Kong, Sir Henry May. It provided a place for single ladies to stay, as hotels were considered improper back then! These days, it’s a member’s club in a beautifully preserved heritage building right in the heart of Central. Its seven light and airy function rooms make for beautifully romantic settings for wedding lunches, teas and dinners for 12 to 50 guests. Looking for an alfresco option? The beautiful, secluded garden feels a world away from Central and is ideal for relaxed cocktail receptions. For an idea of price, the garden room (pictured)–which can accomodate 70-130 people–costs $1,400 per hour. Membership to the club costs around $4,000.
