Real Weddings: Alison and Edmund

In a fit of auspiciousness, Alison, a marketing and sales professional married Edmund on the 8th of August, 2008, a very lucky day for weddings in the Chinese calendar. “The date was Edmund’s idea,” says Alison. Not only was it auspicious—it’s easy for both of us to remember—particularly in our old age!” The couple decided on an overseas wedding in the Laguna Chapel, Phuket, with a reception held at the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket. Inspired by one of Edmund’s favorite films, the couple decided on a “Moulin Rouge” theme to the wedding. “I didn’t have any particular type of wedding in mind, but Edmund wanted a big party—or at least, an excuse to party!”

The bride wore:

Gowns from Valse Bridals and Sarona Lo

The groom wore:

A suit from William Cheng & Son

The bridesmaids wore:

Blue gowns from Lu’s Bridal, China

Decoration: All planning decorations, photography, makeup and entertainment was organized by the Laguna Chapel

Invitations: To be environmentally friendly, Alison and Edmund decided not to print invitations to the event; they emailed friends and family instead.

Advice for couples planning their weddings:

“Don’t worry too much about the little details. The guests don’t really care and the day goes so fast that you won’t have time to either!”
